Letter to Victoria's Secret (09/08/2002)
Dear Victoria's Secret:
As a faithful customer of your company for over 11 years,
I'm distressed to see that your stores still practice size
discrimination and don't carry larger women's sizes. I know that part
of it has to do with a bias on the part of the fashion industry against
women of size, but plus-sizes are a booming market niche and there is a
lot of money to be made in that arena. To ignore the fuller figured
woman is simply a matter of stubbornness and bias against larger women.
Women like Kate Dillon and Star Jones show us that fuller figured gals
can be sexy and certainly have the income level to afford your wears,
so why do you continue to deprive the women's size customers of
beautiful, sexy, lingerie and underwear?
The bottom line is that sometime soon most women will be plus-size,
simply because we not only get larger in width, but also in height.
Eventually other lingerie lines will usurp your customer base and will
grow much faster because they will recognize the need for larger sizes.
And when you are left in the dust, you can reassure yourselves that you
did the right thing in sending out the clear, strong message that
full-figured girls just aren't worth making bras for...
Sincerely,
Amy Larson
